The Tartan House, located in the city center of Karaman, was built in 1810 by Hacı Ahmet Efendi from the Tartanzade family. A beautiful example of Anatolian Turkish house architecture, the building has a central hall plan and is two stories high. The house is notable for its penwork decorations rather than its wooden ornamentation. The octagonal ceiling of the first-floor hall features depictions of subjects from the Westernization period of Turkish painting, such as the Sultanahmet Mosque, Dolmabahçe Palace, the Maiden's Tower, the Mausoleum of Mahmud II, a paddle steamer, and a sailing ship.
